Oil Alternatives!!!

Oil, oil, oil.
What more problems will you bring?
Depending on oil so much has been a large mistake everyone has done and is now paying for. There have been many consequences and there are more to come. Fortunately, people have taken action and things now seem to be falling back into place, but there are still too many negative effects. There needs to be other changes done in order for our economical, social, and political stability to rehabilitate. I invite you all to research the consequences on oil dependency and what we can do to change that. It is very important for everyone to cooperate with each other in order to get things done! Some of the things we can change in our life styles are too save energy by using only the necessary, by changing light bulbs, and by using solar energy. We can purchase hybrid cars, convert our cars, change the gasoline, or use public transportation. We can also purchase our goods at local markets like Farmers Markets. We can try to convince our leaders into doing the same because we need all the oil we can save. Oil needs to be appreciated and used wisely, not used on unnecessary things where we can use alternatives for oil.
In my opinion, I think war uses up too much oil. I think the government and the arm forces need to find other alternatives for oil usage. I think the government should consider increasing the charge on goods and services that use oil after a certain amount people use. Our economy is already in a bad shape and this oil dependency makes it worse because people are so dependent on oil that they can’t function properly. Due to the oil shortage people close down their businesses causing others to lose their job, but this isn’t the worst consequence.
I can’t believe how important oil is but yet so dangerous. I was shocked when I found out that children who are exposed to oil on a daily basis are more likely to have cancer, leukemia. Pregnancy is also highly affected by oil. There is a higher percentage for people to have premature and underweight babies. OH NO!!! I don’t feel good about knowing this and not doing anything about this disastrous issue!!!
I don’t know about all of you, but this oil dependency, shortage, and the consequences are scaring me!!! Starting today, I will try my best to cooperate with those who are trying to depend less on oil. To reduce the oil usage and my carbon footprint I will try to get in the habit of walking, conserving, reusing, and recycling. I will also try to use less electricity by turning off or unplugging all the items my family and I are not using at the moment. I can’t let this problem come by past me without doing anything; therefore I will also try to get others into doing the same sacrifice I am willing to do. I will try to motivate others to do use less oil by speaking to them and making them aware of our current situation; the problem, our consequences, and the necessary changes we need to do in our lives.
I know this will be a hard task for everyone including myself but I am willing to sacrifice my current life style in order to save our economy and our environment. I will try my best to keep my new style by thinking about all the problems this dependency is bringing into our lives every time I want to go back into my old life style. I will also let my family know what I want to accomplish in order for them to support me, remind me, and stop me from doing what I don’t want to do. I hope that everyone shares the same opinion I have and starts acting because I no one does, then who will? I hope this issue ends soon because it has been very devastating for the lives of many people.

Envirnoment Contamination

Source: oillism
My name is Samantha Sanchez and I am a Congress member. As part of Obama's Administration I feel in between because I don't feel comfortable announcing my decision. I wouldn’t want to be against any side, but I know I should do what I think is best for the nation. I haven’t only heard about this disaster, but I decided to experience this oil spill catastrophe for a short period of time i
n order to come up with a better solution to bring up for our next congressional meeting.

My family and I are currently visiting my husband’s family members in the Gulf of Mexico and I find their situation very devastating. My father in law has been struggling to support his family because their sea food restaurant along the shore went out of business due to sea food shortage. Their restaurant went out of business because not only were there less fish, but the fish caught may have been contaminated without them knowing. My husband’s family didn’t want to keep risking feeding people contaminated fish. When my husband’s mother told me their depressing story, I thought she was exaggerating things and that they had given up too easily, but my family and I went to the beach and saw exactly what she wa
s talking about. I was shocked to see so many intoxicated sea animals along the shore that will eventually die, just like the others did. I sent my children back home while I reflected on this situation because I didn’t like the environment for them. It was not a nice and appropriate place to have a picnic, play around, and take a swim. The whole environment was contaminated!!! Time here in the Gulf of Mexico hasn’t been pleasant to my family and me. We are scared of purchasing food or going out of home because the whole environment smells like oil and we are afraid of purchasing contaminated food. We want to leave already, but we would also like to help the family here because the restaurant they had was their only source of income. The whole family in that household is having problems with each other because they are so depressed that they blame each other for what happened. This home has become a chaotic and unhealthy environment for everyone. As I think and think, I haven’t come up with any solutions to this destructive problem. I don’t even know where to start my plan because as I come up with any ideas, I realize that they all have their pros and cons which will affect many people. Now I understand everyone’s position; the business owners, the tourists, and President Obama’s position. I would not like to be in any position because business owners are struggling to maintain their selves stable, tourists are not having good vacations, and Obama is having a hard time coming up with a good plan.

I highly disagree with Obama’s plan to deal with the current Oil Spills in the Gulf of Mexico because I believe that this idea will bring extensive negative political, environmental, and economic effects rather than positive impacts. I still think he is a great person that has earned his position and can’t be compared to Bush. Unlike Bush Barrack has made promises that he is willing to keep, he is willing to help in every area, and is getting there little by little. I have the confidence that he has the ability of fixing this problem. I don’t want to pressure him because I know that one person al
one can’t fix the long-lasting problems the nation has encountered over the years, from one day to the other, but I think he can do it with everyone’s help. I am willing to support him and work with him if he rethinks his plan.
Source: oilism

I don’t think this opening vast stretches of the U.S coastline to oil and gas will help Obama gain others people’s support. This is an insane plan that will bring negative criticism against Obama. I feel like people will feel very disappointed at him and will regret voting for him. I assume people will think that he is thinking more about the economy instead of prioritizing the environment and the living organisms in it. Yes, we will get more oil and get the oil off the ocean, but the environment will be highly affected. By digging holes, we might be destroying wildlife’s habitats without even knowing it. We may also cause drastic changes in their lives such as exposing them to the oil we extract from the ground. Wildlife can be covered with oil or even drink the oil causing them health troubles such as kidney and liver problems. Commercial fishing and tourism along the Gulf of Mexico will continue to be affected.

Personally, I think Obama and we, the Congress have been responding appropriately, but I think that we need to work harder to come up with other ways, other solutions to work faster and cause a major impact amongst the nation because time is running very quickly and there hasn’t been much solved.

Oil, Oil, Oil

Oil, Oil, Oil.
I can’t believe how much we depend on oil. When did this start happening? How can something so insignificant to many people truly be something very important in our lives? Oil is so important for businesses but yet it’s so scarce. It has been so devastating for me to see some of my close friends lose their jobs because the company they worked for went bankrupt and laid them off. A few small furniture companies, clothing stores, restaurants, and beauty salons around my neighborhood have closed down their businesses, have moved, or have changed what they sell. Some of my friends worked in the restaurants and furniture businesses that went bankrupt. As of now my friends have left their apartments to go back to the original home they shared with their families. They are broke; they barely have money to contribute with the rent payments and purchase their necessities. If it wasn’t for their families, they would not be able to make it on their own; they would not be able to survive.
Luckily, I am not in their situation, but I feel bad since I can’t do much to help them. I am glad to have the family I have because starting with my parents, they are amazing. My parents are hardworking people who have worked for their children; so th
at we have the life they never had living with their parents. My parents are very motivating and supportive. As of now, I am not self-sustainable and I am not doing anything about it. I am lucky to have the family I have because if it wasn’t for them, I don’t know what my life would be like. I highly depend on my family to survive. I am a full-time student who doesn’t work to provide for myself or my family. My family does not want me to work; instead all they ask for is for me to do well in school so that one day I will be someone in life, someone many will be proud of, someone people will admire and look up to. My parents say that the only inheritance they will leave me is my education because no one will be able to take my knowledge, my skills, and my experience away. Until then, I will be able to be self-sustainable. I will be an independent woman who will be able to help and support others. My immediate community is very limited, but I believe that I can be self-sustainable. I believe that I can come out of this community and achieve all my goals if I try my best and set my mind to them. If I can do it, then the rest of my community members can too. It may be more difficult for some, but I believe that everyone can do it, everything is possible!
Getting from one place to another is not complicated for me because my father and my sister
drive. My brother does too, but I hardly ride with him since he doesn’t live with me anymore. I don’t worry about a ride because my parents resolve that for me. My father is usually the one to take me to the places I wish to or have to go to. My sister occasionally drives me around when I ask her for the favor, but luckily I have friends that take me home or to other places when my father and my sister are working or are busy at the moment. I wish I could drive so that I would not have to depend on them for a ride but my father does not want to teach me how to drive because he says that I will go crazy, it is dangerous, my friends will treat me like a taxi, but most of all he’s not ready to see me grow up. I can’t wait to learn how to drive and get myself around but I guess I will have to wait. In a way I don’t want to have a car just yet because I don’t work and not only will the car and my insurance cost my parents, the gas will too, and gas can get very expensive.
Elasticity plays a role in this economic crisis because now many people are substituting original brands for imitations. Some people are now forced or simply want to be flexible in purchasing cheaper items instead of the pricey items bought before because their budget isn’t enough for all the items they wish to purc
hase. As the economic crisis worsens, I have seen many items at a higher price in the market. The increase in prices is what has also caused people to be flexible about their purchases as long as they have enough money for their other necessities, but at the same time have a similar satisfaction with the product. For example, instead of buying sea food or red meat, people rather buy chicken since it is cheaper but it has a similar satisfaction and similar nutrients. Others may trade their Coke for a Shasta or similar drinks that are not as expensive but have similar a similar taste.

Food Shortage!!!

SOURCE: fiery-foods

My cooking class has been very interesting and full of incredible, but useful information this whole week. I am glad I have not missed a day.
Foods' origin can be very surprising!
I never thought my favorite food traveled such a large distance before I got to enjoy its delicious taste. Linguine Pasta is so soft and chewy. I always thought everything could be made in California even if its place of origin was somewhere else. Until today, I thought pasta originated in Italy, but to my amazement, I found out it comes from Bannockburn, Illinois. The distance from where Pasta comes from does not compare to the 2,476 miles that Arrowhead water travels from Greenwich, Connecticut to get to California. I can't believe that some of the food I consume travels so much just to get here. I hope their traveling is never an issue, a cause for their shortage in Los Angeles.
Now, I am concerned about FOOD SHORTAGE because there are many food items that I like, which are expensive and are not made or packaged in Los Angeles. Luckily, there are many COMMUNITY GARDENS in L.A which are taken care of by organizations such as the Los Angeles Community Garden Council (LACGC). There is a Community Garden East of Downtown Los Angeles called SOLANO CANYON Community Garden who supplies restaurants with fresh produce. I invite you all to check it out!
LOCAVORES which are people like me who consume food within 100 miles from their home are left to seek for the nearest farmers markets or Community gardens to purchase fresh products. I recommend for everyone to consume local food because imported food has negative side effects that could affect our environment, our health, our communities, and our taste buds. Isn’t it better to know what we consume and where it comes from? I think so!!! That is why I’m a LOCAVORE!!!
Now this I found shocking.
I didn't know that there existed FRANKENFOOD which is genetically modified food. For all I know I could be eating this type of food causing me health problems! "OH NO!!!! EEEWWWW!!!!" Why in the world would people create these types of foods if I could be allergic to some of the chemicals used???
:(
I think this type of foods are not any worse than NON-ORGANIC FOODS though because many chemicals such as HORMONES and ANTIBIOTICS can be found when people irrigate animals and use a contaminated sewage sludge to make them grow. Irrigation and contaminated sewage sludge may make the animals grow fat, but these two things affect my family and me since we consume all the chemicals by eating animals and other products. Consuming antibiotics at a regular basis is not good for my family or me because our bodies will become immune to this medicine and when we really need it, it will not take effect, it will not work to cure our future illnesses.
:(
I think I rather search for ORGANIC FOODS even if they are not so tasty sometimes, because unlike NON-ORGANIC they are WAY healthier since they are cleaner, unadulterated; free of non-organic pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides.
PESTICIDES and HERBICIDES are highly toxic chemical remains.
:(
My Organic Food Search started today!!! :) Since I do not know of many community gardens near my house, I asked my dad to drive me to the Solano Canyon Community Garden to search for fruits and vegetables. I am glad that this community garden was not that far from my house or my dad would have had a fit because he hates driving. I had a hard time convincing him to take me. This Garden is only 10 minutes away from my house, we only traveled about 6.43 miles, so next time I will consider riding my bike in order to save oil. Luckily, I found the items I was looking for. As I was gathering my food, I was truly convinced that organic food is way better. My mangoes were SO FRESH!!! They were freshly cut from the trees. They were just how I like them too: pretty hard, green, but yellow and tasty from the inside. YAY!!! It feels cool to be a locavore eating organic food.

Life Change!!!

Oh My God!!! Have you all seen the news?
I can't believe people are stuck in the airports or in a location away from home due to a natural disaster!!! This is CRAZY!!! I would expect airplanes to fly over anything, but I guess not. :( I don't know what I would do in their situation, but I would sure go NUTS!!!
I think these flight cancellations will bring negative effects in everyone's lives because people will have to wait until the airlines function again or take other methods of transportation. I assume the economy will worsen because everyone will lose money in all areas. Airlines may lose money because only a few people will have the time or patience to wait for a flight therefore may take a train, a car, etc. Even when airlines begin functioning again, they will lose money because the amount of tickets sold may not cover all the expenses they have such as plane maintenance, wages, and bills, especially when they will have to recover from the loses they encountered when their airline wasn't running because bills and wages don't stop. Airlines may have to increase ticket prices or decrease the amount of flights per day because a flight for a few people may not be worth their profit. These changes will affect people because it will cost them more to get to their destination and airlines may not have as many customers as they did the previous months. Those who decided to take other methods of transportation may have a hard time getting to their destination. Many people may be taking the train which may cause tickets to be sold out and others may take their personal cars causing more traffic. Traveling in their personal cars can turn out to be very expensive because they will constantly have to stop, pump gas, and eat along the way depending on the distance. Not only will these methods cost more money, they will cause struggles and will take more time.
Oh My God!!! Before I
forget.
I also heard that gasoline stations are becoming more scarce!!! NO WAY!!! On top of flight c
ancellations, we have to suffer for gas??? Really??? Is this recession that bad??? I hope the ones setting the gas prices are compassionate enough not to take advantage of the situation and increase prices excessively. Honestly, I think they will though because they know that desperate travelers will be forced to pump gas at any excessive price since they won't have many options. I feel sorry for all these people overspending, but I feel worse for those that are forced to stay home or wherever they are because their lives may encounter changes due to a delay.
I hope I never find myself in their situation or with a bad economic status because money may not be everything in life, but it is a big part of my life. I am not rich, but I am pleased. I can't imagine my life without the goods and services I enjoy having such as goods for my hair and face. I don't think I would be able to give anything up, especially not those I use on a daily basis. I think I would go CRAZIER if I had to substitute my supplies with alternative goods and services!!! OH NO!!! :( They are substitutions for a reason!!! I would live a miserable life without my supplies because I am so used to them, I am a very picky person that is hard to please, and I don't conform to just ANYTHING . I wouldn't mind carpooling with someone to go to school because that is an easy task, but I don't know about walking. Not only am I lazy, but I hate waking up extremely early to be on time since it takes me 30 minutes to walk to and from school. I think my education will be affected because I would be late or absent more often and I wouldn't want my grades to be affected, especially not when I am about to graduate!!! :( YAY!!! Class of 2010. I think walking is a huge sacrifice but it doesn't compare to the sacrifice I would make if I would be missing my hair and face supplies. I would die without them because I don't leave my house until I am ready and I would not be ready without them. As of now I am not prepared to make any changes in my life, or at least not those who will negatively affect me. In contrary, I am working on making good changes that will bring me prosperity in the future. I am working to make my future a better life than the one I live now.
As of now I am not worried about losing necessities such as food, water, and power even though times are hard right now because I think my family is not suffering this recessionn as bad as others. Luckily, my family brings stable earnings home. I feel bad though for those who are unfortunate and have lost their jobs. I bet those are extremely worried about losing their necessities with no type of income to cover their bills and other expenses. If lay offs continue to increase I think we will encounter another Great Depression or a recession of that sort where many more will become homeless searching for the government's help. I think this nation will have a lot of debt problems because all events will have negative effects eventually affecting everything, one thing leading to another. I think this nation would even go to war to fight other nations for the goods we lack. I think that many more people will suffer, encounter hunger, deaths, and many more irreversible events. Oh My God!!! I never really stopped to think about this! I hope I never have to go through this, my parents have worked so hard to give us the best life possible for some DUMB recession to ruin it all for us. :(
So far, I am not prioritizing my needs and wants. I am living my normal life as if there was no recession, but that is because I have great parents who don't worry us with any problems they have. They don't let the rest of the family know their problems because they feel as if those are their problems, not ours, therefore they have to solve them their selves. All they want me to worry about is school and my Senior Activities. If my family and I were to struggle through this recession at a much higher level, I think we would be forced to prioritize the goods and services we utilize. We as a family have never sat down to talk about this, but I think that we would cut down our house phone and keep the cellphones for emergencies, cut down on the wasted electricity, and spend our money wisely by purchasing nothing but the necessary.

Supply And Demmand

Today, as my peers and I were reading a section from the Economics Today and Tomorrow Book in my Economics class I learned many terms that can apply to oil. For instance, I learned that Demand is the willingness and ability people have to purchase certain goods and services they either need or want. Supply is the decision the seller makes on the amount sold and the prices for each good and service. These economic terms can apply to oil because people do supply and demand oil according to their economic status. Many people demand oil because they are willing to and have the ability to purchase many goods and services that contain oil such as gasoline. The gasoline is sold to the consumers, but before going out to the market, the seller decides how much he/she will sell and the price for each type of gas. To test our knowledge about oil, Ms. Sanchez asked us to take a quiz at www.thatquiz.com. After taking the Oil Quiz, I wonder so many things like, who the largest oil producer in the world is, when the increase in oil production is truly expected, and what we will do without oil. I am surprised to find out that when the world encounters an oil shortage, not even the wealthiest people in the wealthiest countries will receive the most oil. I am also surprised to learn that the United States was within the largest oil producing countries in 2005 when to my understanding, this country was always short on oil, so short that they went to war to fight for oil. This is interesting, I would like to look deeper into this. There is still something I do not understand though, how is it that if another country such as Canada increases their oil production, others do not get affected, if there is a certain amount of oil for the whole nation? How is it that if an oil-exporting country decreases its oil production, oil exports will not necessarily decrease by a similar quantity.

My Obession

Today, I watched a news report about petroleum and I was extremely impressed to learn that everyone highly relies on oil without even knowing it! It is incredible to know that we encounter it in our daily lives with the majority of items we use such as products for hygiene and beauty. I cannot believe that I apply so much oil on my face with all the make-up I use. As I watched the news, I thought to myself, "HOW NASTY!!!! EEEWWW!!! What's the point of washing my face if right after that, I soak it will oil?" I know this thought was gross. "But it's true!" I am glad that I wash my face
on a daily basis though because I do not know what it would be like if I didn't! I bet my face would be completely full of acne. "EEEWWW!!! HOW GROSS!!!" I would totally be every one's reason to laugh. I would surely live a miserable life with a low self-esteem. What I found most surprising though was that our dependency on oil doesn't stop on products we consume for external and internal use. It is also used on photograph films , plastics, fertilizers, and pesticides. As the news report ended, I realized that oil is very, very important in my life. I cannot believe how much oil I use a day! Now imagine how much oil I use a week, a month, and within a year! I don't know what I would do without oil and I hope I never find out. I suggest everyone listening to me to use oil wisely, to appreciate and value this natural resource because we never know when we will wake up without it at this rate.
